"Erin Harkes wins 2007 Metroland readers poll for Best local solo Musician"
"Erin Harkes and the Rebound"
Erin Harkes, on Jimmy Fallon last night, April 7th, 2010, said she was from Albany, and had Jimmy Fallon say, “I
Love Albany.”
Here’s a statement from her:
Last night I appeared on the Late Night with
Jimmy Fallon show for a nationally televised segment called, “Battle of the Instant Bands,” in which two
impromptu bands comprised of audience members are given about 20 minutes to write, practice and perform a song on air. It was a surreal, yet invigorating and visceral experience, and I want to take a few moments to describe how truly
random and wonderful an opportunity it was. After some haggling with my mother, who always insists on an early arrival,
we arrived at Rockefeller Center at 3:00 p.m. for a 4:15 p.m. entry. While waiting in the entrance line, a producer
scoured the crowd for musicians. I mentioned that I played guitar, but that I thought myself a better singer. He pulled
me aside. After some tense moments of uncertainty, and three notes on a run-through of Nirvana’s “Smells
Like Teen Spirit,” I joined up with a guitarist, a bassist and drummer. The “Fallon Angels” were formed
with a wink and a nod to the host. Together, we threw down a song titled “Free Jimmy.” I penned the
lyrics, and the band laid down a ripping 30 seconds of rock. Once on set, and after a few laughs with the host –
who gave props to Albany – we took the stage, rocked it hard, and to our surprise, bested the dangerous “Battle
Axes.” The Fallon Angels trucked out with gear, a generous gift card and an experience that shakes the mind and
body. We Were on National TV!!! The experience aside, I want to thank all of you friends and family who sent me messages
of support and well-wishes. It’s you who I sing for each time I hit the stage, be it on national TV, or here
at home in Albany. Thank you for all the support.
Congratulations Erin on your success! Medcalf
Acres supports you 100% Keep up the good work!
